Mobility and Urban Environment Information for Decision Making: City of Napoli, Italy

The Napoli pilot will test advanced analytics on data related to Public Space (parks, street areas, other) and mobility-related data to build decision support systems for evaluating potential future use of public space.

Pilot description

Pilot start date: July, 2024

This pilot aims to enhance urban planning and mobility strategies through advanced analytics on public space and mobility-related data. It focuses on identifying relief hubs across the city where citizens can rest and seek protection during extreme climate events, such as heat waves caused by urban heat islands. By integrating data on the physical morphology of urban areas, citizen opinions on mobility, and green capital assets from the UE Spotted project, the pilot seeks to address the current gaps in unpublished mobility data and outdated urban planning information.

The ultimate goal is to redesign public spaces and improve citizen participation in sustainable mobility planning, ensuring a resilient and well-informed urban environment.

Addressed use cases:

  • Web Analysis (Scraping/Monitoring)
  • Descriptive analysis
  • Image Processing
  • Data quality
  • IoT & Smart City
  • Other smart mobility

Open data used: Spotted heat exposure service, infrastructure points of interest.

Data sources: OpenStreetMap (OSM), municipal data, and Urban Heat Island (UHI)
