Description
This workshop will explore the fundamentals of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and data visualisation. We will focus on extracting insights from large-scale surveys that use free-form answers in part of their questions (answer boxes where you can type in anything). Participants will learn how to perform basic NLP tasks (like sentimental analysis of text) and data visualisation of text responses and survey answers.
All the tools used during these workshops are available for free to EU public administrations through the BDTI platform. You can learn how to apply for BDTI here.
The data we will use consists of responses from the city of Vantaa’s annual participation surveys conducted in 2020, 2021 and 2022. These surveys try to measure the satisfaction, involvement and influence of citizens in local governance (among other things). You will learn how to use tools available on the BDTI platform to extract and visualise some insights from these responses.
What You’ll Get from This Workshop:
- An understanding of using NLP in translating texts and analysing sentences.
- Hands-on experience in analysing survey responses in bulk.
- Skills in managing data storage and processing using Apache Superset, MongoDB and Jupyter Notebooks.
- A foundational understanding of data visualisation techniques and tools.
Who Should Join?
This workshop is ideal for professionals in market research, social sciences, public policy, and data analysis, as well as anyone interested in extracting insights from surveys using data visualisation and natural language processing (NLP). It is designed for beginners and does not require prior experience in survey analysis or advanced analytics. Participants looking to apply data-driven techniques to understand survey results better and uncover actionable insights will find this workshop particularly valuable.
