Unlocking data potential: BDTI Skills Studio launches with cutting-edge analytics workshops

The Big Data Test Infrastructure (BDTI) has launched an exciting new initiative, the BDTI Skills Studio, designed to equip public administrations and engaged citizens with essential data analytics skills. 

This initiative is a significant step towards fostering creative public service solutions and enhancing data-driven decision-making across Europe. The Skills Studio offers workshops, webinars and courses covering various aspects of data analytics, ensuring participants gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience. Introduction to Geospatial Analytics - September 4, 2024

The first workshop in the series, Introduction to Geospatial Analytics, scheduled for September 4, 2024, focuses on the fundamental concepts and techniques of geospatial analytics. Participants will learn about spatial data, how to visualise it, and how to use geospatial analytics to make informed decisions. The workshop is designed to help public administrations leverage geospatial data to improve urban planning, manage natural resources, and enhance public services. By understanding and utilising geospatial data, participants can create more effective and sustainable solutions for various public administration challenges.

Introduction to Statistics - September 11, 2024

Next up is the Introduction to Statistics workshop on September 11, 2024. This workshop aims to introduce participants to the basics of statistical analysis, including key concepts such as probability, distributions, and statistical inference. Attendees will gain insights into how to collect, analyse, and interpret data, which is crucial for evidence-based decision-making. In this workshop, we will delve into the principles and applications of graph analytics. Participants will learn how to analyse and visualise relationships within data using graph theory. This workshop is particularly valuable for understanding complex networks, such as social networks, transportation systems, and communication networks. By applying graph analytics, public administrations can uncover patterns and insights that can lead to more efficient and effective public services, from optimising traffic flow to detecting fraud in social services.

Dashboards for data visualisation: Analysing and presenting traffic accident insights - October 2, 2024

In this workshop, we will explore the core principles of data visualization, focusing on how to analyze and present static geospatial data effectively. Participants will learn how to manage and visualize datasets using Python, PostgreSQL, Metabase, and QGIS. The workshop will utilize a practical use case involving the visualization of traffic accident data, leveraging the tools provided by the BDTI platform.

Communicating complex datasets: Integrating real-time data for urban insights - October 16, 2024

In this workshop, we will explore the fundamentals of data visualisation, focusing on how to effectively communicate complex datasets. Participants will learn to integrate and visualise real-time data, a crucial skill for understanding urban dynamics and environmental conditions. This workshop will demonstrate these concepts through a practical use case involving real-time traffic and air quality monitoring, using the tools available on the BDTI platform.

Harnessing climate data: Classification and predictive analytics for tourism - November 6, 2024

In this workshop, we will introduce key theoretical concepts in data classification and predictive analytics. Participants will learn how to use historical data to classify and predict future outcomes, a fundamental skill in data science. These concepts will be illustrated through a practical use case involving the Tourism Climate Index (TCI), using tools currently offered by BDTI.

Predictive modelling and real-time analysis: Real-time forecasting and monitoring of bicycle use - November 20, 2024

In this workshop, participants will learn to forecast bicycle traffic in Paris using historical data and compare the predictions with real-time data. This practical use case will demonstrate the entire process, from analysing historical data to generating forecasts and visualising both forecasted and real-time data.

Additionally, participants will learn how to set up an automated pipeline to continuously update and visualise real-time data, providing valuable insights for urban planning and promoting sustainable transportation.
