Urban Data Platform Test, Predicting Tree Health: City of Bochum, Germany

An open-source monitoring system of tree health data along with Machine Learning capabilities for predicting tree health from resistivity readings.

Pilot description

Pilot start date: May, 2024

The City of Bochum currently uses 5 sensors from trees to monitor resistivity, temperature, humidity, and other weather data. The team wants firstly to have a system that visualises this data in real time and additionally to create a Machine Learning model that considers the data and, by combining them with additional soil moisture sensors, predicts the health of Bochum's trees.

  • Data used: Data retrieved from sensors in trees (eg. temperature, resistivity, humidity) along with additional weather data

Addressed use cases:

  • Predictive analysis
  • Time-series analysis
  • IoT & Smart City
  • Data Analysis and Visualisation
